Message: We have a love hate relationship with warehouse rack. We have purchased a variety of rack and shelving products going back about 10 years. I will say that early experiences in the past were much better than recent experiences over the last few years.. Let's start with what is right about warehouse rack: Reasonable prices, more posted information (website) and photos than competitors and once you get the product, it generally is in good condition (used items). Marketing is absolutely a strength of warehouse rack. Delivery of product is normally via their own trucks and is typically professional.. Where warehouse rack falls off is in execution, mainly in sales. Multiple times we've called to order an item, someone says they will call back after they 'check stock' and never do. Need a quote? You might need to call back a few times to follow up on it. If you need actual recommended advice for which product is best for your given situation, even if you have well defined requirements but just do not know the exact product, you will almost surely be out of luck - at best my experience has been sales people are really order takers. I chock this up somewhat to the low cost of the product but I still would have to imagine it is cheaper to provide advice on the proper product than having a customer with the wrong item. Advice to management: Record and listen to customer sales calls to figure out if the way customers are handled is the way you would want them handled and follow up with customers post-purchase or quote with surveys and find out what did and didn't work so those problems can be solved or people properly trained.. One possible solution is to drive more sales to the website and we have placed and un-assisted (non-sales person) order there but since they lack a complete inventory system, it isn't possible to know if you actually can purchase the item all the time - is it in Houston? Is it in Ft. Worth, etc? So, you need to have fairly narrow requirements. I suspect they don't put much effort into the website because it doesn't generate sales but likely it doesn't generate sales because no serious effort is put into the website.. I like warehouse rack and I can see that they are almost there in terms of execution but fall just a bit short in a few areas. These are not unsolvable problems but clearly management has to want to solve them and I think their focus may be else ware.
